UN Diplomat Vacation Act

The United Nations Diplomat Vacation Act, adopted in 1993 and amended on 3 July 1996 by the Constitutional Assembly, provides guidelines for granting home visits to staff members assigned to duty stations with challenging living and working conditions.

Under this policy, home visits may only be authorized when a spouse formally requests a vacation on behalf of the staff member. While not all vacation requests can be approved, applicants are encouraged to reapply if their initial request is denied.

Vacation Termination

Vacation applications may be terminated for the following reasons:

Delay in Processing Requirements: If identity verification is incomplete or missing documents (e.g., ID card, passport, or driver’s license) are not provided, the UN Security Council cannot approve the vacation.
Delay in Payment: Payment delays can also result in cancellations. Applicants must notify the Vacation Department of payment delays, provide reasons, and propose a timeline to avoid cancellation.

Method of Application

A spouse, fiancée, or trusted partner must send a formal vacation request to the Vacation Department via contact@unitednationarmyusa.com. The Vacation Department provides clear guidelines upon receiving the formal request.

Applicants can also submit requests through the online portal or the email address provided.

Vacation Arrangements

The UN is responsible for organizing flights and health insurance to ensure the safety of its staff. However, any vacation or leave not officially authorized by the UN will require applicants to cover all expenses. Payments should be directed to the UN account office via the designated front agent.

Important Note:
To protect staff from risks, including threats from terrorism, the policy amendment prohibits unauthorized vacations. The updated procedures have successfully ensured staff safety for the past two decades.

Vacation Charges

Charges vary by branch and location. Applicants will receive specific details after submitting a formal request.

Vacation Benefits

Annual vacation benefits range from $30,000 to $500,000, depending on the staff member’s salary and contract terms. Benefits are disbursed to both the applicant and the staff member upon successful issuance of the vacation certificate.

Vacation Duration

Vacation certificates are valid for 2 to 4 months, with a maximum allowable duration of four months.

Security Guidelines

To ensure the safety of staff, all vacation-related information is strictly confidential. Only the Vacation Department, the staff member and their trusted spouse or partner may access such details. This policy protects staff from potential threats during their leave.
